December first is almost here and it’s time to whip out the advent calendar and start the official countdown.
The first printed Advent calendar originated in Germany in the early 20th century with Gerhard Lang. Lang’s calendar was inspired by one that his mother had made for him and featured 24 small candies attached to cardboard, one for each day before Christmas.
Lang modified his calendars to include the little doors that are a staple of most Advent calendars today and they became a commercial success in Germany.
Paper calendars are still popular, but versions created from an endless variety of materials such fabric, wood, string or biscuits as the one made by Tortatelier are also widely available.

Il primo dicembre è quasi arrivato ed è ora di tirar fuori il calendario dell'avvento e iniziare il conto alla rovescia ufficiale.
Il primo calendario dell'Avvento stampato è nato in Germania all'inizio del XX secolo con Gerhard Lang che prese ispirazione da quello realizzato per lui da sua madre e che conteneva 24 piccole caramelle attaccate ad un cartoncino, una per ogni giorno prima di Natale.
Lang ha modificato l'originale includendo le piccole porte che sono oggi un punto fermo della maggior parte dei calendari dell'Avvento e che sono diventati un successo commerciale in Germania e nel mondo.
I calendari di carta sono ancora popolari, ma sono anche ampiamente disponibili versioni create da una varietà infinita di materiali come tessuto, legno, corda o biscotti (come quello realizzato per noi da Tortatelier)
